Music Theater Connection

This class is a nine-week exploration of music theater. Broadway is the world's epicenter of music theater with a century-long tradition of excellence in music, acting, dance, lighting, and sound. With more than forty theaters in the heart of the New York City theater district, Broadway draws audiences from all over the world and sends out touring casts to major cities all over the world.

Students will learn how Broadway began and has had it seasons of flourishing and floundering. They will also learn about the evolution of this art form, and how it has grown to represent the vibrant diversity of life and culture in the last thirty years. Students will also learn about careers in the music theater industry that go far beyond acting on the stage. As a culminating project, students will direct and write music for a short musical.
